  • Mini Halogen Oven?

Long story short...we rent our home & I have really just about had it with our fitted oven...it's single, one shelf & also doubles up as the grill...making a lot of the meals I like to cook near impossible.Don't really want the upheaval of moving just because of the oven.
I've recently seen lots of adds for little mini ovens & they've been calling out to me to buy!!
Has anyone had any experience of them? Are they as great as the marketting chappies would have me believe?
I shall try to use my new found skill of posting up a link to one...would be grateful if anyone that's either got or had one could let me know their experience.Cheers.http://www.easylifegroup.com/products/2491.asp

i would say with 4 of you you won't find it big enough .... that chicken that's in there aint very big ....... in fact it's more like a sparrow

could you look on freecycle for a better oven? or ask the landlord to replace it?

It wouldn't actually be a replacement, just used for those occassions I need to cook more than one dish at a time.
The oven is well & truly fitted...lovely as they are I don't think our landlords would be up for getting a new one...the annoying thing is,my old double oven is sat redundant in the garage

could you not ask if it would be possible to have yours fitted instead?? they might not mind if it's not gonna cost them??

Sorry, honest I'm not trying to be awkward...it really really is fitted well & truly proper!!!(worktop from one wall to the next...little hole cut out for the hob & a little gap left between the cupboards for the actual oven...they'd have to literally rip out one whole side of the kitchen to refit another!!)
The idea of getting the little one is not to use it instead of,but when the need arises...& it often does...to use it along side.
          Cheers!

i think i'd see if you can find one to look at before buying though, to see if it will be big enough for the things you will want to cook in it

Nothing a sledge hammer and a good swing won't sort seriously though try and see one before buying, don't look big at all!

If the kitchen wasn't at the front of the house, with huge window that landlords & their family walk by on a daily basis...would be incredibly tempting

Is there room in your oven for another shelf? My friend had the same problem but bought one of these; UNIVERSAL ADJUSTING OVEN SHELF: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home. It doesn't give a massive amount of room between shelves, but much better than she had before.
Is your oven which is stored gas or electric? Could you have it hooked up in the garage? Not ideal I know, but if it's taking up space in there anyway?

I'd love a new oven too, but like you, we rent. Ours is about 20 years old, and using far too much juice. But it has plenty of room, so I shouldn't complain!

What about a combi microwave? Sharp make good ones, at least that's the model my brother has had for many years.

I'm not really keen on the idea of microwaves...I know it's probably a totally irrational fear, but we've all got at least one!(irrational fear not microwave!)But otherwise a good idea...cheers!(again I promise I'm not trying to be awkward!)
Sarah,I did consider the option of plugging the old one in the garage, but got lots of 's from all that knew a thing or two about electrics!!!So prob best I don't!
The thing that appeals with the little oven is that it looks small enough to store away when not in use,but with postage & handling fees, all the ones I've seen come in at about £60.Not bad if it was going to be useful, but if it ended up as one of those gadgets forgotten at the back of a cupboard, well, not quite such good value!

                          Hi,
A friend of mine bought one of those back from the states last year, They are excellent, His one has a timer on it and he pops his meat in in the morning and when he gets home it is ready to eat.
Although as others have said they are not that big, they cook the most wonderful jacket potatoes.

Just found this for you,, similar to his one.Halogen oven

Can't comment on the halogen oven but it does look pretty small. I have a combi microwave (Samsung) which can be used as a convection oven and is totally brilliant - it also has a grill which is used more often than the one in my oven.

Just because it has a microwave function does not mean you have to use that.

I also have an 18 quart roaster oven (like this Nesco® 18-Quart Roaster Oven - Product Review ) which I brought back from the States, I don't know if you can buy those over here but it is a superb machine.
