I am a subscriber to "grow your own".I am thinking of also subscribing to gardeners world.I have no interest in flowers but an interest in fruit, veg and herbs.
I know there are people on here who read both.Is it worth subscribing to GW or is a lot of it flower based?

    Thanks

I don't subscribe to GW but I do buy/read it. There's a fair bit about flowers and the like, but for my part, 3 or 4 years ago I would have said - like you - that I have no interest in flower growing. Maybe it was reading GW(!), or maybe just one of those things, but I love growing flowers now, alongside the fruit and veg.

If you're totally only interested in GYO then try one of the other similar titles - Kitchen Garden etc, you might find GW a bit too broad?

          Thanks rhona

I have tried a couple of issues of kitchen garden( to get the free seeds) but was'nt too impressed to be honest.I just have a small garden so prefer to use it to grow things we can eat.

lol I work in tesco so see the amount of gardening mags grow every month it seems!! i Have had a sneeky flick through some of these mags but really dont want to waste money/subscriptions on a mag which has a lot of flower content.

Gardeners World is very much flower based, with a bit of wildlife gardening and grow your own too.

I also get Amateur Gardening, which is a 50/50 mix I'd say. I'm surprised that more Grapes don't buy it, as it's full of really good advice every week, and free seeds too (mostly flowers, it has to be said, but useful for Swapsies).

imo, Grow Your Own is the best on the market for veggie growers (and nobody paid me to say that).

GYO is the only one I buy consistently, every month. I used to have a GW subscription that I got as a birthday present, but never felt the urge to renew it. As for the rest, I buy according to content, whether it has something I'm interested in or not. There are tons of new growing type mags coming out now, and some of them are, ermmm, pants...!
I quite like the Smallholding type mags too, but just coz they feed my fantasies

GW Mag always seems to advertise that it is doing Veggies then when you read it they are very small articles. I also think they are too celebrity garden 'type' magazine and do not go deep enough, I will keep looking over the next couple of months and see if they do a series of articles on the new Gardeners World Garden.

My favourite at the moment is 'Home Farmer' it has it all 'Veggies, Poultry, Pigs and Cooking' and other subjects as well, a great read, even my other half reads it.

My ideal mag would be one by River Cottage as I can not get enough of anything from there at the moment their preserve book is excellent and there is good reviews about their Veg Garden book.

I used to subscribe to GW, and liked it a lot, but since I got into veggie-growing, I've swapped that for GYO. Sometimes I impulse buy others too! I also subscribe to Country Smallholding, so I know everything already by the time I win the Lottery LOL!
