Hand push lawnmower

I am thinking of buying a hand push lawnmower - like the old fashioned ones. They have new ones on ebay for £25, but are they any good?
It is only for the allotment to do the paths and round the shed.

I bought one last year from Aldi (£40).
It's good (sharp blades & quick) ~ except if your ground is uneven, then it's a real b0gger to move ... it just grinds to a halt on hummocks and gets stuck in ruts.

I like it though ... no leccy, and it's silent to run.

Ah so it does acctually cut the grass then?

trouble with any cylinder mower,they do need fairly flat ground to work,never seen a push rotary,guess you'd have to whizz along to get the speed up,how about a sythe or sickle?

My father used one for years they tend to skid if the grass is wet.
We then moved house and the area of lawn was huge so he bought a petrol driven one(Suffolk Colt)

That's the problem I found. I ended up with muddy streaks all over my lawn.

i bought a qualcast from argos last year (i was on a fitness thing now passed thankfully) it lasted 2 days before the lug holding the handel to the body sheared off got a replacement and the same thing happened took that one back and got an electric mower in stead

We got a push mower from Homebase - their own brand version. Dragged it all the way home in the wheely trolley getting funny looks.

It's fine when you get a bit of momentum going, but when you hit a bump it stops. It just needs pulling back and shoving again though. We have a pretty bumpy lawn, but I think it's great. No leccy and no noise excpet your own puffing and panting. Much better than going to a gym

the ground is bumpy - maybe i would be better off with a strimmer, anyone used one of these rechargable ones?

I've wondered about those also but not really got anywhere to keep it up the plot and don't want to have to have to carry it back and forth (and nowhere to keep it at home either!). Sounds like I'm better off just sything back and taking the petrol strimmer up there every now and again.

I got one from Argos and its great....but the ground needs to be flat and the grass relativly short.

I tend to strim first and then give it a go with the mower.

As I cant trust Mrs Nog not to cut her feet off, she is banned from my petrol mower and uses the push one at home all the time.
