  • mail order (thompson and morgan ipswich)

Sorry people I am usually a quite peacable person however I have to blow off a little steam some where some how. I have just taken delivery of some sweet potato slips from Thompson and Morgans of Ipswich. I only live 30 miles away from their ground. I placed the order in december and have been waiting for them to arrive till now. today they arrived. how dissapointing. the note with them said they were sent on the 14/04/09 and today is 23/04/09. they came in a box big enough for a fruit bush. the slips are so dehydrated they will not survive. I may get 2 if I am very very lucky. an e mail has been sent to their web site and I expect a response. I think I saw it on here about their seemingly lack of care before. I saw after I ordered. just to add insult to injury and big dissapointment they sent a variety I did not ask for. Has anyone else found their service this poor?. I do feel sorry for anyone ordering from miles away. should t & m read this then this is the last time you cross me and for all other suppliers my trust and faith is sorely dented. they are quick enough to take your money then supply shoddy goods and service. if it was animals and not plants I bet there would be a riot. I will await the reply from them and then maybe trading standards. For those interested I will post on here any further contacts

I think I would have telephoned rather than emailed

Good luck Lez. Last year I orded trailing Begonias. On arrival their condition was atrocious.
I wrote to T&M to complain and received a £5 voucher
Guess where I don't shop anymore?

They do seem to be very hit & miss. I don't think their emails actually go to them, perhaps they just drift off into outer space?

I agree that a letter or phone call is a better way of contacting them. It is to easy to put the phone down and e mail keeps a better record. phone, office hours, listen to greensleeves, I know exactly where the ground is so could pay them a visit. some even garden not to far away. I would of followed these routes given the chance I think but working 12 hour shifts and week ends they are not there my best shot is e mail. maybe rethink my stragety later but using this site must get the word to a whole lot of fellow gardeners who will on reading give second thoughts to t&m so hurting them more than a letter or phone call and so far I have posted all over. thanks all

Maybe you should direct T&M here so that they can see the comments themselves!

I gotta agree - T&M's direct service seems to be variable at best. For my veggie order this year, my garlic arrived a little on the late side, my onions were damp and half rotted, the spuds were late...

Last year I trook up one of their offers for a bunch of stuff for £15 or so - an Acer, a hanging basket, sweet peas, etc. Only the Acer made - the rest were cr@p.

Their customer service is OK - when you ring them up, but it seems we need to rely on customer service too much too often when they really need to be working on improving quality. Makes you wonder how many don't complain.
