  • Cheapest retailer for decking boards?

Need 11x 2400x144x28mm decking boards as building a raised veg plot in the garden.

Anyone know the cheapest national chain place to buy from?

Or the cheapest way to make a decent, strong, 2400x1000x432mm (approx) raised bed?

Off work tomorrow, and looking to build the bed ready for filling from pots at the weekend.

b&q are selling diy raised beds for £20.. think the're about 6-8ft x 3ft but only about 12inches deep.. that's roughly anyway, without going out to the garage and measuring it i couldn't say for sure

Thanks, well bought 9 boards from B&Q (as I want a large bed, deep due to poor soil), and some treated posts to build next weekend. Will be filling with compost, sieved soil (from levelling garden) and gen compost.

As they are pressure treated, I assume I'm OK to leave them alone treatment wise?

Next decision is which side to face which way!

If you want to use decking boards you will find them alot cheaper from a builders yard if you have any close by.

A cheaper way would be to use fence board it is treated and comes in 2.4m lenghts you can get them in 6 inch width.
Just make sure every saw cut end is treated with a wood preservative to make it last

Worked out cheaper to get the decking than similar boards!

            Cost me about £30.

B&Q are selling them at just under £3 a shot....I've bought quite a few recently and it's cheaper than Wickes at the moment

I built all my raised beds last year with fencing rails from my local timber merchant in the next village. Comes in 3.6m lengths and he will cut to whatever size you want and delivers it for free. I paid £3 odd per length and just ordered some more which he is cutting to size for me - I build mine 2 rails deep. He also cuts me little stakes for the corners to screw the rails into - I bought all my decking from him too.

Hi there, good luck with the raised beds! We did just the same and used B&Q decking after much research into gravel boards, scaffolding planks and decking (husband loves a bargain/hates to think he's paid over the odds for anything). In the end, after much deliberation we went for the decking with the ridged side facing out. I'm keeping fingers crossed that the pressure treating will be enough! They look great, though I realised just how much I liked the 'random exuberance' of my plot before the 'regulated tidiness' with the raised beds, though I'm sure I will love it as much when they're full to bursting ;-)
