Rather than try to repair damaged hands, use surgical gloves to protect your hands in the first place, maybe a barrier cream before you start. If you do get chapped dry skin after gardening, wash your hands in cold or luke warm (not hot) water and give them a good scrub with a soft nail brush before using hand cream.I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

I've tried all kinds over the years (I don't wear gloves so have permanent compost stains on my fingers and nails)
Body Shop hemp handcream is the business, but it smells horrid. Therefore, their Mango body butter is my number one.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

I LOVE 'Helping Hands' from Lush. My hands get really, really, dry and this stuff is just gorgeous and leaves them really soft and smooth.
If there is a Lush store near you (and you can stand the smell, I know I lot of people can't even walk down a street with a Lush shop in it!) you can pop in and ask for a sample. The staff are usually very helpful!

the cheapo option if your hands are really bad, is to smother them with Vaseline at bedtime, then put on some cotton gloves (or socks!).
In the morning your hands will be baby soft (and hopefully you won't have a greasy pillow). it works really well on hard feet tooAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

As an occasional eczema sufferer I use E45, to wash my hands all the time (soap allergy - well fragrance really), brilliant as face cream/any cream really...Hayley B
