I'm lucky as one of my cousins is a bee keeper, so I'm getting 1lb jars with screw plastic lids for around 25p.
Try finding your local be keeping society, as they normally order together to get bulk supplies at massive discounts and they may appreciate you clubbing in with them.I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

I got some hexagonal ones on ebay last year for about 40p - with metal lids, 12oz size jars.
Think it was Piglet who recommended them- and a few other peeps
Think it was this supplier... (£40 for 84 jars incl postage)

Thank you everyone....bit of an emergency on! over 25 kilos of redcurrants so far and we're only 1/2 way up the row! loganberries look good too.
Went for Freeman and Harding in the end. friendly and helpful lady...Very good price on lids (i have lots of saved or scrounged jars) less than 10p each. 8oz round jelliy jars @ less than 50p each but its the £14 carriage that killed it a bit. They are in Kent if anyone that way should like to collect.
So if I could trouble you a little further on some market research
We are building a roundwood timber framed shop in the village. (profits to local causes etc.) So the plan is to sell some jellies. Hence some well presented new jars. Organic juice is all steam extracted so jelly clear as the proverbial bell (not being a big head but normally win the show!) and I guess by the time you've put labels on and paid for the sugar and gas it must cost 80p (excluding our time or redcurrants) a jar to make. What should a 225g jar of quality jelly reasonably go for?Last edited by Paulottie; 23-06-2009, 02:34 PM.

Not sure about the price- I've not bought jam for years!!!
A local lass here is converting a run down 17thC house into a shop and coffee/tea house selling home-made produce of the sugary variety...sounds something similar to you??
She makes jams with small amounts of herbs in them- might be worth researching into as they're delish ( something I've never seen before in the UK..nor even thought about doing myself!). She's also been on a chocolatier course to make and sell her own choccies!!.
Can't wait till she opens!"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Have a look at Waitrose website for lots of jellies to get an idea for a price. When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown
