We have used a Salton sealer for about the last 15 years and it has been worth it's weight in gold to us.
Only thing is we then had trouble getting the rolls of bags until we saw them on the Westfalia site. We have bought many things from this company and never been disappointed with either the products of service.
Vacuuming from Westfalia at our Curing food inside the Household shop
We are currently using it to pack dried fruit that we have made using their dehydratorI am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

It depends if you are going to store under vacuum or not. Vacuum gives you a longer shelf life and does need special bags. I use eBay 40 Vacuum Food Sealer Bags 20x30 cm Embossed Channelled on eBay (end time 12-Aug-09 20:23:21 BST) for mine, £8 for 40 bags.
Normal sealing without a vacuum you can get away with ordinary freezer bags, but do try and get the thicker plastic ones that come on a roll. If it's veg, I would use normal bags and the good thing is that you can cut the bag, remove the veg and reseal the bag before putting it back into the freezer.
My bag sealer is one of my best buys and is used every day.
Lidl sell good ones every now and again. I noticed they had some last week.

£8 for 40 bags, that's 20p per bag!
We have been using the bags off a roll, designed for the vacuum seeler and I don't think they would have cost us more than a penny a bit. We have used this method for freezing both raw and cooked food for many years and had no problems.
We have only changed for frozen items to plastic containers for ease of storage over the last year.I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.
