Where is the best place to get potato tubers please? I am a complete newbie at potato growing and have only just learnt that you grow potatos from tubers... I have sooooo much to learn and can you still plant them now?

    Cheers

Too late for general planting now, unless you want to try a few in large pots under cover for Christmas harvesting. Lots of the seed companies offer seed potatoes in their catalogues, also local garden centres and pound shops. In February lots of areas hold "potato days" where you can go and buy as many or as few as you want of lots of different varieties. Traditional planting date is around Easter.

Potatoes are tropical plants, so don't survive British winters.
The shops will be full of seed potatoes (as they are labelled) in about January, for chitting.

Have a go with your search button to explain chitting etc.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about trying them in pots first to see how I go. I have to cat proof my plot first before I start thinking about planting anything in the ground!

How big is the plot, and how many cats?

Ive got a small raised bed about 2x3 foot, it has strawberry plants in... no strawberries and I dont know how long they have been in there for. Another raised bed about 5x5 foot, with nothing in it at all apart from cat poo and some weeds. Potentially another raised bed about 5x7, im using that as a bonfire sight at the moment!

There are about 15 cats locally...

              Other way round!
Planting up your plot will keep the cats off, because they like bare dry ground to poo in.
