  • Please recommend a garden knife

    As the title suggests really!
    I want to get one as a gift for my Dad.
    Thanks all.

    Try MadeInSheffield.com For Sheffield made gifts +44(0)114 2493770 a selection of good quality pruning knives and of course, as the name suggests, Sheffield made. Don't know if it is because I was born and raised near Sheffield, but I have this - probably slightly unhealthy - knife obsession and every one in my house has to be razor sharp. Of the ones on this particular website I can recommend the Wolstenholme Peach Pruning Knife, it keeps a lovely edge.
    Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

        Not a specific gardeners knife but I use a Buck folding lock knife for stacks of jobs in the garden and lottie. It keeps a good edge and is very well made. If looked after it should last for years.

        I only use a knife for taking cuttings and such like occasionally (prefer secateurs) so can't say whether a knife designed for the job would be better. However, for having near at hand for cutting string, tie wraps, and all those other little jobs it is fantastic.
        It is the doom of man, that they forget.

          This was the one I've been thinking of getting, are you pleased with it?

          The Sheffield site looks good too.
          Will have to look up the buck knife.

                I was bought a "Featherstone & Durbar" Pruning knife for my 40T Birthday from my OH'S Mum & Dad, It has a stag antler handle, to be honest I don't use it because its so nice I don't want to spoil it. Apart from that, I use an old "Marshalls" pruning knife I've had for years, why, because I love the way it feels in my hand, it keeps nice and sharp, and does the job.

                  Two possibilities
                  A fixed blade knife, stainless steel with orange handles if required;
                  Clipper Knife by Frosts of Mora, about 10 GBP, visit www.attacc co.uk

                  or an Opinel, a cheap but very sharp lock knife, available in stainless steel if needed Just put Opinel into Google
