  • Shredder

I am planning on purchasing a shredder for my garden.

I understand i need to delay and compost down for a least a year any woodchips that i create before putting on my veg plot - would people agree?

the shredder i have been looking at is the Bosch 2200w rapid - has anybody got one of these - what do they think? do you recomend?

    thanks

Wood chips will initialy take nitrogen from the soil to fuel their decomposition. It is not permenantly lost as the wood returns it as it decomposes. As far as I'm aware that's why woodchips are well composted before adding to the veg. plot.

I cannot coment on the Bosch 2200w Rapid as I have never used one. Having said that I have seen many good reports about them.

I myself bought a Bosch 1600 shredder. It is brilliant for woody prunings and things like de-cobbed sweetcorn plants but is useless with very leafy material. Always getting blocked. I have to keep back some of the woodier stuff to push the leafier material through the machine.

It is useful but not as useful as I had hoped. If you buy the 2200w Rapid perhaps you could tell us how it performs.

Peppertom. Sorry forgot to mention. Check out Fredshed - an independent showcase for the latest and best tools for the home, garden, and DIY market There is loads of info on there about gardening and other diy tools. If something is crap Fred will say so. I think there is a section called 'Garden Power' (or something similar) which will include shredders.

Glad you all like the link. The trick is to have a look before making your purchase. Not, as I so often do, buy some piece of junk and then have a look what Fred in his shed has to say about it.

I tend to impulse buy but must admit the Powerforce 2500w from Tesco was a dream. Yes like a lot of shredders, the soft stuff tends to get stuck in the bottom but is easy enough to clear. I called to my local Lidl yesterday & they had some shredders in @ £79.
They looked great and came with a collection box that just slid underneath the shredder.
