  • Which wheelbarrow would you recommend / avoid?

My trusty plastic B&Q has finally succumbed to a slightly too heavily used spade and is beyond repair - so here's your chance to suggest replacements.

It is to be stored outside and used in a fairly open garden although some paths through the arches are restricted, but the old standard fitted through without trouble.

All suggestions / avoidance notices received with thanks.

The one I bought from B&Q (the same one as you have?) I have had for four years & is still going strong. (for a cheapo is still good value.)
Most people on our lottie site have B&Q wheelbarrows but as B&Q is only five mins walk it's hardly surprising.
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

A barrow from a builders merchants would be best value at £30 -£35 with pneumatic tyre and good balance. Beats all the 'Toy' ones at garden centres etc

I recently got a decent one from Netto. Galvanised steel with pneumatic tyre, easy to put up. Only £19.99........If it collapsed tomorrow, I have already had my moneys worth.

The only trouble with pneumatic tyres is they puncture - some are easier to repair than others.

I have a B&Q orange special. Lovely and lightweight. The wheel has buckled and it has two punctures - I think I've used it twice, and on grass at that! I'm now searching for a proper wheel and solid tyre to replace the cheap 'c.....mas-cracker' wheel that came on it. Other than that it's a lovely big barrow.

I got a Chillington Camden Wheelbarrow for £7.50 today from Wilkos. All their gardening stuff is 50% of and the wheelbarrow was the display model which someone had dropped so it had a slight dent.

So they gave it to me for 75% off. You don't ask, you don't get.
