Alison, the money you need to pay for a really good one is close to a grand, I am just buying an ok one as my budget just wont stretch that far.

Actually - I used to have one of those but when I moved in with the OH he had just bought a smaller version so we freecycled mine; and then the whizzy thing for the milk broke.

I've been through all sorts of coffee machines; and now just have a cafetiere and a small machine that steams the milk [as the OH's DD likes hot steamed milk]. Cafetiere was £10 from Wilkos and I thought that was alot! If necessary I'll whisk the milk in a pan and heat it that way.

The pods are a fad that is a waste of time.

I have a Krups expresso machine from about 2 years ago, I don't think they make the model any more. Used 4 times a day and still works fine producing the best expresso I have had outside Italy.

You cannot go wrong with Lavazza ground coffee, far better than store own label brands as far as I am concerned.

Cant remember what make I had but one christmas I asked for coffee maker Oh and daughter went out on their own to get one OH was on crutches and daughter small, how they got it home between them I have no idea. Horrible machine as the coffee is always too cold. Sat in the spare room doing nothing now.

I must have got thro about a dozen coffee makers in the past, including an all-singing, all-dancing expresso maker. THAT was a real drag....cleaning the steam tube for the milk etc.....and couldn't get semi-skimmed milk to give a decent froth.

Save your money!! You can get a basic "smart-Price" filter coffee maker from ASDA for about £6/£7. If you break the jug or it cops put, you can afford another!!
It's the ground COFFEE you buy that is the most important factor for a decent cup of coffee...and you need to drink it fresh too......

I have a DeLonghi Magnifica - 'bean to cup' type thingy. The RRP is more than you want to pay but if you're not bothered about the latest bells & whistles or having a 'factory return', they can be had for about the sum you're thinking of via ebay.

I'm a fresh coffee drinker, certainly first thing in the morning - I grind beans each time using one of these....

Not a big coffee drinker - well, that is to say I don't drink coffee very often, not that I'm not big...

Henyway, I've never had a bad cup from my little stove-top metal thingy that you fill the bottom of with water, and the top arf with the coffee.

Depends how little you like faff I guess.

We have one of these.. Hamilton Beach 47214 Brewstation Coffeemaker, Black on eBay (end time 09-Dec-09 21:13:51 GMT) which we brought back from the USA. I found a Kenwood version a couple of months ago and bought it for when the American one gives up the ghost (now 5 years old and still going strong). It just makes filter coffee, no gizmos, but it is easy to use one handed.

Strewth! I'm with Alison on this - make me a fresh cup of tea and I'm anybody's. I can't tell the difference between the produce of different coffee makers, not that I drink much anyway. Tea. Wazz of the Gods!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
