I use two smaller heated props and one large on - all from B&Q. They were all pretty cheap and this will be their fourth season so doing pretty well for the money.
I find most things benefit from being potted on a few days after germination. That said, I use individually sown pots in the big propagator, the things that like root disturbance the least. Leaving them too long lets them get leggy. If your windowsills are very sunny and warm (and even if they're not actually) remember to keep turning the pots every day or so.
