  • Lakeland Seal-a-Meal

Take a quick looky at this Seal-a-Meal® - Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware

Taste Italia magazine rave about, and I'm pretty tempted. We don't have masses of freezer space, and I make a lot of stuffed pasta which is prone to freezer burn.

Any thoughts? I can't quite decide whether it's brilliant or a waste of money.

customer review suggests it isnt very good and you only seem to get 3 bags with it - good idea but maybe not this version?

It looks like a gadget that is going to take up a lot of space to me! I have seen chefs vacuum packing their stuff but I'm sure you are working on a different scale, Rhona.

We've always used a straw to suck the air out of freezer bags. Just gather the bag tight around a straw and suck, then tie a twisty round the bag .Works just as good.

I semi seal the freezer bags, and leave a short piece not sealed and just suck the air out myself. Have done for years. I thought everyone did it!!!

I like my kitchen gadgets, so could be tempted. Though I'd have a good look round to see if i could find the other two the reviewer refers to first.

I've never sucked the air out of my freezer bags, but do generally "scrunch" most of the air out. I'm assuming something like this would be much more effective, particularly as i do sometimes get freezer burn.

If you do go for it, Rhona, please let us know what you think.

Think I'll stick with sucking the air out myself then using those ties.

Looks a bit like a gadget for gadgets sake to me. Have never had freezer burn and am quite capabe of sucking the air out myself

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

How much difference would that really make to the longevity of the contents compared with any of the do-it-yourself methods mentioned above?
I've sure it wouldn't equate to £34.99 + P&P + The extra space it uses up. Space in my kitchen is at a premium, and it's not exactly small!
