  • Enviro Wash balls

I bought some of these this morning from Aldi - £5.35 for up to 600 washes. I admit to being sceptical about the claims but decided to give them a go. First wash load has just come out - the smelly socks and stinky jeans are fresh and clean

    Anyone else tried them?

No, I always wondered about them - how do they work, sounds too much like 'magic'?!

I use one in every wash, near enough. They work, but sometimes I need a separate stain remover on grubby collars etc

The blurb says 'the specially formulated pellets insidew each enviro wash ball produces ionised oxygen that activates the water molecules naturally and allows them to penetrate deep into the fibres of the fabric to gently lift the dirt away'

I doubted they would get son's jeans clean (they were almost able to stand alone) but they did and everything smells fresh too. The pack contained 2 wash balls with 2 lots of refil pellets and a stain remover stick.

I've used them for a year and a half now; just changed to the second of the 3 balls last week in fact. They are fab!

I am actually thinking I might go and buy another box or 2 as the refills from the number in the packet are more expensive than buying more from Aldi

I'm a water treatment engineer and sorry to say but all the marketing claims are just hogwash, to put it politely! To be honest, you'd get the same results just using nothing in your washing machine.

I found this interesting article the other week while searching for advice on buying a new washing machine - it explains it better than me! :

Fair enough Lavender. I didn't buy them coz I am super green though - I just grudge how much Fairy costs me (the only detergent Madmax doesn't get a rash with). All I will say is that whatever is in them and however they work, they got younger son's jeans as clean as Fairy does and smelling just as nice

I have never heard of them?!
How do they work? Do you put the washing powder in them?

Nope, they have beads in them which supposedly does something to the water in your machine.

I keep thinking of getting them whenever I see them on price-drop tv but pete has allergies to most powders and I worried that they may irritate his skin just as much as the powders do. But on seeing all of these comments I may well give them a go as the worst that can happen is that I would save money.
Thanks for putting this thread on.

My wife uses them too, whenever I do any washing I always use 'proper' stuff, as I'm still a bit skeptical... that said though, they do seem to do their job. We don't use them for our babies' nappies though - we've some special stuff with lavender or something in that is supposed to kill most bacteria.

But my work shirts are clean and smell nice, so yeah - if they don't work at least you've something to throw around when board!

I am trying these on some netting that I have used on the lottie; so were filthy with clay and green stuff on them........last lot I did with proper stuff [not that I have much of this in the house these days].....so we shall see. It's in the M/C at the moment.....

Any soap will kill most bacteria. Save your money

I use them (not that brand though) and I'm very happy with the results. My detergent bill has certainly come down and there's a noticable difference in the septic tank (lack of congealed soap scum). If I'm washing something very heavily soiled I use washing powder (tablets) but only half the recommended amount.
A good beginning is half the work.
