  • Rain Diverter Kit - where from?

Can anyone recommend a rain diverter kit. And how do you fit them? Needs to be a simple kit for a girl to understand. I can drill holes etc so not too bad with the DIM (Do It Myself)

Getting a couple of blue plastic barrels on Thursday with lids and want to divert rain from the downpipe. Will need a reasonable bit of pipe as the downpipe is next to the soil pipe and I need the barrel to be the other side of the soil pipe from the downpipe (hope that makes sense). Reason can't put it next to the downpipe is it will block the back door into our garage where I keep my gardening bits and bobs.

Also think I need a link kit that connects the 2 barrels together so that when one fills it overflows into the other. The 2nd barrel will be right next to the 1st one so pipe length not an issue.

    Help anyone?

The link kit is unnecessary - just drill a hole in each barrel, with hole in the barrel that will be filled first being about two inches above the hole in the second barrel - a length of garden hose is inserted in each hole and the spece between the hose and the edge of the hole sealed with silicon easy peasy - I have three IBC tanks and four blue barrel set up in this way.

If you are wanting to fit a rain diverter from your existing down pipe.
      1) Mark a line on your drainpipe 1cm lower than the height of your water butt.
      2) Mark a 2nd line 3cm below the first line.
      3) Cut out the peice of drainpipe.
      4) Fit the diverter in the gap.
      5) Drill a hole on your water butt level with the hole in the diverter & link your pipe.

You normally get a good length of pipe to go between your pipe & butt but you could always extend it if reqd.

Thanks for that. I'm in Leeds Thursday as the supplier of the barrels is in Whitkirk. So will see if there's a B&Q out that way on my way from my Dad's place in Meanwood. I usually go to Leeds over the Moors from Bingley to avoid traffic so no DIY on the journey unless I divert.

Thanks SR for the info about the link kit. I've got some silicon as I've got to seal up the sunroof on my Mum's car as it is leaking. Another first as I've never done that before. Instructions say only use above 5C so waiting til weather warms up and there is less humidity so that I can do the job. And I can cut the end off my garden hose....what fun!

If you are going to Whitkirk, there is a B&Q on York Rd next to Asda and they do have the diverter kits in.
