  • looking for boys woolie/walking socks

Am trying to find decent thick socks for boys age 3 and 7. Only seem to be able to find cotton ones, which as we all now are freezing in wellies! Has anyone seen any decent warm socks for kids, either highstreet or internet, prefeably ones that don't cost the earth!

Fingers crossed! Many thanks in advance!

I dont know if you have the shop up there, Donna, but I got my daughter some walking socks in Oswald Bailey for a good price - I think they were £3.50 for two pairs...

There must be some outdoor sports or mountaineering shops in Leeds; I know there is a branch of Blacks because my daughter used to work in it!
Ask for wool loopstitch socks. All socks now have a bit if synthetic material in them, just look for a high wool content and tell the staff what you want them for. But be careful as some socks are all synthetic as they are intended for hot weather
I have discovered a brand called Smartwool, which are excellent. They are wool, but have been treated to make them machine washable, as long as you're sensible and use a gentle cycle
If you can't find children's sizes, try ladies, but as they are for young boys it would be sensible to be less than honest about that, and remove the labels first!
But be warned; they will be more expensive than the bundle of cheapo sports socks off the market
Cotswold Outdoor have childrens clothing; the branch in Leeds is in The Core shopping centre, Lands Lane. Field and Trek is another large outdoor retailer which is often a bit cheaper, but I don't know if there is a branch in Leeds
Walking boots are warmer than wellies, but are of course more expensive
For a temporary arrangement put the sock on, then into a plastic bag, then into a pair of trainers. Yes you will get condensation, but it's OK now and again; and warm and damp is preferable to cold and soaking
