  • Mantis Tiller ? Own one returned one?

Ok so who owns a Matis Tiller? are they any good?

I have a back garden which I need to turn over and break up in order to airrate and level after many of years of building work, i know it will not do the job quick but i am more then happy to work away at it rather than hiring a bigger machine and having to return it within a weekend after breaking my back. I also have a plot which I would then use the tiller to work in manure etc most of the weeds have now been removed so cutting up the roots is not a problem.

My next question is has anyone returned a mantis unit under the 12month refund policy statement? I am thinking there must be a catch.... technical I could use the unit for 12months and then send it back....

    Thanks

I would not recommend a Mantis for what you have in mind it is not man enough for that type of job .
If you need a tiller type buy one of ebay or from local paper when you have done the job you can sell it on again .
Do not think i am having a pop at Mantis i have had one for 18 years but know their limitations.
I would recommend a Merry Tiller or Similar ..

i have one, they are good but do have there limits,i found that mine works the ground better if i dig it over first then go over with the tiller, brings it up quite nice, but thats just my opinion..

Like the idea of buying and selling but I was hopefull the mantis would have been a one stop solution for home (for this one thing) and then fine down the plot afterwards. never mind

As yeti says, they do work better if you can loosen the ground up with a fork first. We've got a 2 stroke, and it does eventually get through compacted clay (if you dig it a 'starting hole' first) but I don't think it's fantastically good for the soil and it's bl**dy hard work! The 4-stroke might be better, I don't know never having used one.
