  • Food dehydrator please

So having sifted through a crate of apples left over (himself says they were hidden in the loft), I was wondering about a food dehydrator.

I dried some in the oven last year but it must have cost an arm and a leg and a kidney for the leccy.

Can anyone recommend one they use? I'm off to google now but would obviously prefer what grapes recommend.

I got one from the States but it wasn't very successful with apples - took ages, hard to tell when they were dry enough, difficult to get airtight storage etc. I have found stewing them (in the microwave) then freezing is the best storage method.
    Happy Gardening,

hrms... we're short on freezer space, we have an upright f/f and that's all we can have.

I thought of the dehydrator as we have a walk-in pantry...

        Hi
I was reading the thread below a while back and was tempted to get one.

Look at Westfalia Westfalia Search - dehydrator

I have this one Food Dehydrator from Westfalia at our Preserving food and jam making inside the Household shop and have dried apples, pineapples, chilli's, tomatoes successfully and intend to experiment more this year

I have a westfalia, does the job for me
You have to loose sight of the shore sometimes to cross new oceans

I would be a perfectionist, but I dont have the time
