  • Poultry Sellers - Am I Allowed to Recommend?

Yesterday we went off to a poultry seller in deepest Somerset - A&J Poultry. Contact details are available online but phone for an appointment - preferably not on a Monday (as we did!) as that's their busiest day.

The satnag took along the leafy lanes and very beautiful it was too. When we arrived we thought we'd gone wrong somewhere as the gate is very unprepossessing. It occurred to me that the owner needed some flash signs, but as they don't live on site, unmarked is probably better.

Anyhooo, It's a lovely set up in stunning countryside with 80+ breeds of chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and quail etc.

All of the cockerels are the most handsome chaps and the hens are very pretty too - in excellent condition. I know it's early in the season, but none of the hens looked bald or fed up with the cockerells' attention.

We chose 6 week/10 day old chicks to put in with our hatchlings, and a box of 8 eggs to put under our broody. As yesterdays eggs had been collected first thing in the morning, our eggs were fresh from under the hens in the afternoon!

I'll update this thread in a few weeks time when our eggs have hatched, but so far our experience of A&J Poultry was brilliant - plenty of advice, friendly proprietor and a clean, healthy, confidence-inspiring set up for the birds.

To be honest I don't see why not, if it's come from your own experience and you don't work for them.

It's always useful to have a choice of 'good' suppliers

I've edited the original post to show our recommendation.
