  • The Hawk Conservancy Trust

I hope I am not breaking any rules with this posting- Mods please delete if I have, and if so - sorry.

We had a fanastic day out on Wednesday- we went to the Hawk Conservancy trust at Weyhill, Andover. Mr HF heard about it through the photograpic forum he belongs to and thought it a good place for piccy taking!
When we arrived we had just missed the 11am Red Kite and Heron feed. The next one was 4:30pm!!! I kinda thought- well maybe we can have a look around and come back later for that, but we were there the WHOLE day and it was the best £11 each to get in that I have ever spent. There were the most amazing flying displays taking part during the whole day- only just enough time to look round and grab a lunch time bite in the little cafe. The Staff were the happiest 'staff' that I have ever met at any kind of 'attraction' They were brilliant and kept that way all day (how do they do that!!!) there were many, many kiddies there (school hols and all that) but they kept smiling and were so freindly- happy in their work. A lot are volunteers.
I am not a caged bird person - birds should be able to fly - so was a little worried it was not a place for me but when the displays start the birds can fly where they want, some high up on the termals, some go way out of sight. FREE!
I wont tell you to much about the flying displays- it may spoil it, but I still (and always will) have one picture in my mind......stunning, and the two of them were literally miles away!!!!!!
If you are near to this place please go have a look it really is worth every penny, and whats more it is for a great cause.
I cant wait to go back!!!!! very soon!!!!

Isn't it the bestest place Headfry

We started going over 20 years ago and I, like you, don't like to see caged animals or birds so I wasn't sure I would like it. Needless to say, we went once, bought membership there and then and spent many years volunteering for them and KK (OH) started and still "does" their web site.

The thing that I love about the place is the enthusiasm of the staff and volunteers and the way they care for the birds and animals around the park including the wild ones. It is a great place to unwind too. Glad to hear that you had a good day.

That sounds lovely Headfry, if we ever go down there I'll look out for it. I got to stroke a beautiful eagle owl today, we called in a pet store & a guy from a rescue centre was there collecting & showing a few of their charges off, a liitle owl, barn owl, eagle owl & a really cute little one which unfortunately I can't remember.

Scarey55.....wow!!! I would love to be a volunteer but cant even find time to sail at the moment.... but one day my time will come, of this I am sure.
The staff and volunteers were FANTASTIC, and that is all the staff inc the catering and shop staff!
Hope to get back mid September if I can get a day for ourselves!
