  • Westfalia dehydrator

A few weeks ago I bought the Westfalia dehydrator and have really enjoyed using it. However, while trying to make fruit leather today, the machine stopped. I tried unplugging it, rearranging the racks, plugging it back in, etc., but nothing. I left it for 1/2 hour, tried again, and now it's working. I have also noticed that every now and then the engine sounds like it's "whirring down" - I had thought the machine was just getting too hot and that was how it cooled down, but now I'm not sure.

Has anybody else had similar problems with theirs? Is the "whirring down" normal or do I have a faulty machine?

Yup - there is a cut off if the unit gets too hot. I found this with fruit leathers too - so I put a few empty racks in to give it a bit more room to circulate the air.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Thanks for the reassurance. It's been working fine ever since its little "incident," so hopefully it was just the safety cut-off kicking in.

It's good, isn't it. I was much reassured and was able to leave it on all night after finding that out. Have another read of the little booklet as well - has some good recipes in there IIRC.
