  • Does anyone own a Teasmade?

    Hi All

Does anyone own a Teasmade or have a relative or friend who has one? If so, I would welcome any comments, good or bad.

My parents aren't getting any younger and the bedroom is a mile away from the kitchen (nearly!) so I wondered if it would be a good Christmas gift for them.
Any thoughts are welcome - at present I can only find one make for sale. Perhaps it would be cheaper to buy a kettle and a couple of mugs!!
    or just something else entirely.

If they like tea in bed in the morning sounds like it would be a cozy idea

For some strange reason I bought myself one when I was in my twenties. I just loved the idea of having a cup of tea in bed before having to get up!

However, I found it wasn't worth the bother - the tea was never quite as hot as it is out of a kettle and it took ages. And it was a bit of a guddle messing around with milk and teabags.

That said, maybe the teasmades on the market now are better than the one I got years ago?

My mum has a kettle in her bedroom and uses that. I have my own teasmaid but unfortunatley he's at work at the moment.........

I think the idea is great, but as you say, they're a bit hard to find these days. The following 2 links might be a good substitute?

Lakeland Travel Kettle - Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware

The Little Vacuum Flask - Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware

Or,if you want a proper Teasmade, Lakeland do one of those too, and should be decent quality as they don't often sell tat., and are very good about refunds/replacements if you aren't happy with anything.

My dad got given one last christmas and has used it about twice! He says it's so much fuss it's easier to go downstairs and use the kettle, plus you don't get much (he likes a big pot of tea in bed to watch the news with in the mornings). And he's found it difficult to use - but he can't admit to that!
The make is a 'Swan' same as the link from Sarzwix

If nothing else this thread has taught me that I've always spelt teasmade wrong (well to be honest, I've proabably not written it much!), always thought it was teasMAID ie a maid which made tea rather than something which MADE tea. You live and learn

My tea maid is my wife. She's alright like, but half of the time her tea is like nats wee. She's learning though!

Thanks all - always helpful and makes me laugh

Alison - I search on Amazon today too and their suggested search was "teasmaid" so I don't think you are alone in your spelling .

My parents had one - it made a hell of a racket - maybe they've improved them? We do the mugs and kettle version!

I do love kitchen gadgets, but a teasmade always seemed a lot of faff. I did once buy something similar, I think it was a philips tea something or other. I think it was designed more for use on the kitchen worktop, but maybe for the bedroom too?

It had 2 china small slim mugs that were supposed to be filled, but tea used to end up in the drip tray/worktop as well, and you ended up doing a lot more cleaning than you would normally. I gave it away on freecycle some years ago, a great place to pass things on, knowing there are so many gadget addicts out there.

So you could always put a wanted on freecycle to test one out, then if it's considered useful an upgrade for Xmas?

my mum and dad had one .... i think they used it twice, cos it took so long and made so much noise, they were awake and up long before the tea was ready .... they ended up using it as a lamp and a clock lol .... my verdict .... get them something else.

My parents had one, but gave up using it fairly quickly as it seemed to take too much time & trouble to set it up each night. I inherited it and didn't use it for the same reasons
If you do want a brew in bed you might just as well get a small kettle and a few other odds & ends and keep them in the bedroom, rather like hotels do
You can also get small travel immersion heaters for making just one or two cups
Or you could just make do with a cold drink, like half a bottle of Scotch under the pillow
