Our lottie society will be celebrating it's centenary next year and we're thinking of creating a centenary garden. We're thinking of trying to recreate a lottie from 1911 when the society was formed .Would anyone know of a good book that might help on a allotment or kitchen garden of this era, types of seeds, layout etc.......

I'm just having a look round. Here's your starter for ten: BBC - Gardening - Design - Edwardian
Anatomy of a garden: An elegant Edwardian collaboration | Life and style | The Guardian
Edwardian (which goes up to 1914) gardening style was one thing; and for the rich.
Allotments don't tend to follow fashions, so I guess you'd just want a plant list of vegetables of the era? I think potatoes and cabbage featured heavily!
If you click on these heritage varieties you are sometimes given dates, if you wanted to draw up a planting listLast edited by Two_Sheds; 07-11-2010, 06:34 AM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

I have PDF copies of the following old books:-
How Plants are Trained to Work for Man: Vol 5 (1914)
Root and Stem Vegetables (1910)
Gardening for the Million (1904)
These are out of copyright books which have been scanned and are available for download, but I can't remember where I got them. Some have been edited for readability others are rough scans. I can send them on if you are interested.History teaches us that history teaches us nothing. - Hegel
