  • Freezer recommendation?

My freezer is definitely on its way out so need to replace before it finally expires! I use it mainly for fruit and veg from the garden, bread and then a couple of drawers for some stocks of fish, meat baking etc. Need an upright model that's pretty big, current one is 1700mm x 600mm x 600mm (OH insists everyone measures in mm now!). Looked at "Which?" but not found them very helpful and if you try going to look at freezers in Currys etc they hardly have any in stock so it's difficult to compare. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks for any help!

You have to pay to view Which reports don't you?

I tend to go by Argos reviews myself, then search around the Net for the best deal

I got a good deal from Curry's. A Norfrost C6AES Chest Freezer in silver for £150 (now £170) ordered online and delivered free and got £4.50 back as I ordered from Quidco.

Thanks for very swift replies! Really have to have an upright Wrex but thanks for the thoughts. Will try Argos, 2 sheds, thanks. Never think of them for big items like freezers.

I had to replace my freezer the other year, got a Beko upright from Currys, again only had space for upright, plus things are easier to get at, never had any problems so far. Went for a frost free this time, so no more wet floors with defrostiing. If you go down this route you will probably see that the frost free ones tend not to have quite as much room inside as their equivalent ones non frost free cousins, but I thought it worth the extra cost for less mess. At the end of the day that what it comes down to is COST, just how much one wants to pay. Set out your budget and shop around. Good Luck

Thanks Tuffwood. I was hoping for some personal recommendations. Have noticed the frost free ones cost more to buy and appear to consume more electricity (thanks to taff for website with info!!). But as you say de-frosting the freezer is a horrible job!

Not a recommendation of make or model but are you set on new one, or would 'new to you' be ok? I have a local British Heart Foundation Furniture & Electricals and I get all my white goods from them now. Everything is serviced and comes with a guarantee (usually 6 months). Saves lots of money, helps a charity and keeps things out of landfill.

If budget is an issue do take into account the electricity consumption. It is often false economy to buy an apparently cheap model. Over say a ten year period some of the dearer and better engineered units will pay for themselves in saved electricity.
