  • Coal bunkers?

A friend is looking for a cheap coal bunker capable of holding 2 - 3 sacks worth of coal. The plastic grit bin types are over £100 and the galvanised DIY ones aren't much cheaper. Try as I might I haven't found any decent wooden ones. Would a compost bin do the trick?

A sturdy plastic or wooden compost bin should do fine.

The best ones I remember were pre cast concrete with a wooden lid and a hole and trapdoor in the front to shovel the coal from!

If you were handy (or new smeone who was) it would be quite easy to construct a single skinned brick one from reclaimed bricks with a wooden lid (pallet wood?)!
