  • Candied Angelica?

    Hi
Any ideas where I can get some candied or crystellised angelica for cake making? I thought it would be fairly easy to find, but have searched the usual places to no avail....
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks Vicky, I was hoping to buy some from a shop, but looks like I may have to fork out for this one.(Not the cost of the angelica, but the postage on top makes it rather expensive!)
      Perhaps I am just tight

I haven't bought any angelica for years, and come to think of it I've not seen any in shops or supermarkets recently (but then again, I've not been looking).

My suggestions would be in the dried/preserved fruit section of a supermarket, in amongst the glace cherries, candied peel, etc. Also a cake decorating section - icing, candles, etc. You could also try the bakery counter of a supermarket with an in-house bakery to ask if they use it, and could they let you have some. Another suggestion would be health food shops.

They are all probably places where you have already looked, but they were my thoughts on where I would look. It intrigues me, and I shall look in future, and if I find any I'll let you know. Sorry I can't be more help.

I've been looking for my receipt. It does take a long time. Quite a few days.

It is an acquired taste. I love it.

Would have thought that you best bet would be a specialist cake shop - you know the ones where you can hire out fancy tins etc.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Here's the best candied angelica I've ever had:candied angelica
The producer is Lilamand in Provence and the shop is known for its candied fruits throughout France.

I have been looking out for this. I bought a plant, so I think to get it I shall have to candy it
                      myself.

Well, Vicki Woods wrote an article in last Saturday's Telegraph entitled 'Am I the last person on Earth to use angelica?'

According to her article it is scarcer than rocking horse manure. None of the big supermarkets stock it. She did manage to track some down at Wiltons Wholefoods in Downton near Salisbury, but they only supply a shop in Hungerford. Not much use for the rest of us.
