I have finished reading Life on a hillside allotment .. He is the Chap from Radio 2. Interestingly I knew him from the Big Dig, which is now repeated at various time on UKtvGardens.
It about 90% about him and his life and 10% about what he do'es on his allotment, if you where a fan of the big dig as i am, then you may find this book very interesting as it has more depth about the other people who allotment around him.
Another book I have just finished is A year in Christines Garden, by Christine Walkden. I Wish I had waited until it was available from the library and not paid for it.
It starts of with her all emotional and wound up after being told they want to film her and appears to decend into many endless dash's from one job to another and endless comments on how old her dog is and wont be around for much longer.
Again if you have watched the series you might find it interesting when she go'es into more detail about place's they film her at, the book also in ties up a few loose ends that the TV series leaves.
An ok read.
(she also mentions in the book about the abusive comments she read about herself on the BBC Gardening website)
Read most of this book around bonfire night, picked it up a couple of weeks ago but this time read all of the acknowledgements and it says " thanks to **** and **** for digging the plot. If the book is true to life then a large part is saying how they had got on digging the plot but not a mention of anyone else helping them, this spoilt it for me and i gave the book way without finishing it.
You're closer to god in a garden than anywhere else on earth.

Ah, but did they mean literally digging the plot, or 'digging the plot' in the hippy sense....

I have just read Allotted Time, the reviews on the back said about their first radishes......
did I miss the radish bit in my book? could find no mention of them.
I like the book, but whats this about them not doing all the digging! hmmmmm
that might spoil my views, I thought it was just them doing the work?
I read the book Allotted Time too. It was alright I guess. Me and my hubbie always joke about the 'friends' that turn up (especially on tv) to help people out, work all day then everyone has a party afterwards and eat lots of food and beer. I was in hospital for 3 weeks around the time everything in allotment had to be planted. All the promises that people gave us before I went in never materialised and in the end Ian and his mum with her bad back did it all , including planting 4 30 foot rows of spuds. Where do people find these mates?
