  • Name required for hose thing for bath

    Hi

    Hope someone can help me.

I am sure I read somewhere about a gadget that lets you drain your bath water in to a water butt to use for the garden

Does anyone know the name of this product or can anyone recommend one.

    Thank you
    Bye

its called a rain diverter kit, and it connects to the drainpipe, try your local water authority website or any of the water butt co's

Hi Pukka Tukka, you can get various different things with pumps, valves & filters to use your bath water or you could just use a hosepipe held under the water & used like a syphon if you only want to do it occasionally. I found this when googling about water butts, it might be of some use.

I like this idea, which I have not thought of. It is cheap and I already have a hose pipe which is not doing anything.

        Thanks for your help

The only thing about using grey water is you have to ensure that it's pretty fresh or I think it goes manky. Not sure of the details but we looked into this last year - seem to remember that there was loads of advice on the Centre of Alternative Energy site.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Think they recommend you use eco-friendly soaps etc. as well & filters to skim out any nasties (hair etc.), but you could just fix a piece of a pair of old tights or gauze over the end of the pipe going into your water butt & remove & clean it after you've emptied the bath.

There was one on the Dick Strawbridge programme last Thursday BBC? 8 oclock ish. It was different to the normal rainwater diverter in that it sorted the gunk out of the bath water and let that down the drain and the grey water into a butt. It also fit onto a 4 inch pipe from the bathroom.

I believe as long as you dont use too much bubble bath/shampoo/soap you should be OK and can reuse the water. I live in a bungalow - is there anything I can attach to the small outlet pipe to divert the water into a water butt? Bernie aka Dexterdog

I tried to siphon my bath water out with a hose (by sucking ) Didn't work.

How do you do it? Do you really need to lay out 20 squid for a pump gadget like this? Water Siphon Hand Pump

Syphoning only works if there is a drop in water level from where you want to syphon from to where you are syphoning to. If you have a low level bath you might have a problem.

                            Method:
1.Hang hosepipe out of bathroom window (while neighbours not looking ) to reach water butt and plug the end of hosepipe.
                            2. Fill hosepipe with water from tap.
                            3. Put end of hosepipe into bathwater.
                            4. Go to other end of hosepipe and remove end plug.
                            5. Stand clear as water gushes out of pipe.
                            6. Pour glass of wine and drink whilst bath empties.

Note: This probably won't work if you live in a Bungalow
