This is my latest favourite, Sepp Holzer's Permaculture

This is how I've been gardening for years, and you all just thought I was lazy

If you've ever wondered about green manures, how to make your own potions, or how use the weeds to your advantage, this book will tell you (and a lot more).

I like his book too - I sometimes feel as if I am trying to garden on the side of a mountain! And if you're lazy, so am I

I love reading and collect far too many books. Modern ones I really value are Martin Crawfords ' Creating a Forest Garden' and all of Charles Dowding's books. Slightly older but invaluable are those by Lawrence Hills, Roy Genders and Geoffrey Hamilton.
For cooking reading pleasure I'd go for Giorgio Locatelli's Born in Italy and anything by Simon Hopkinson and Elizabeth David.
I have a huge collection of Victorian gardening books and bound magazines and there's always one of those on the go. Right now I'm reading 'The Journal of Horticulture and Cottage Garden' for 1879, a weekly magazine covering gardening, fruit growing, smallholding, keeping chicken and bees. It's fascinating as from April 1879 they had exactly the same weather, the same disasters and the same solutions as we have this year.

Are we all reading ink on paper books or is anyone kindling?

I'm a real book reader and collector! I also have Martin Crawford's book and some of Charles Dowdings. Another book I often refer to is Ken Fern's Plants for a Future,
I used to collect Mrs Beeton's Household management in its various editions. Fascinating to see how the role of the Coachman gradually evolved into Chauffeur, and the introduction of various household gadgets to assist the housekeeper. The greater the number of gadgets the less household staff were required.
