  • Dishwasher Recommendations Please

    Hello all,
I am totally fed up with my kitchen always looking like a bombs hit it because of the amount of washing up to be done constantly, so have decided that will bite the bullet and buy a dishwasher in the new year, when my OH comes into some money..(Dont worry he already knows ) But there are so many types and makes....I am totally confused...

This is our requirements: Must be quite small, and white, quite ecconomical to use and (if poss) reasonably eco friendly.

So the $1000, 000 question: what do you recommend?
Also do I require any special plumbing for it, ie can it share the same as the washing machine?
    Thank you x

Suspect you might get a lot of replies along the lines of 'Well, I love my XXXX,' but most of us on here will only experience of a couple of models at most (unless there are any dishwasher engineers on here!), so why don't you have a look at which.co.uk?

They'll give you a proper comparison, and will show you the best price to buy at if you go online (you can get full access by becoming a member for a month for a pound. )

As above really. I sell more Bosch and Neff through designing kitchens, however 'Which' is probably a good place to start. You may need a alternative sink trap that will allow the dishwasher hose to be connected as well but no real drama's beyond that, apart from a 13 amp socket to plug it in!

but then theres the perennial problem of whose turn it is to unload/reload it and you can end up with as much stuff stacked to go in cause nobody empties the bl***dy thing!!!!

Ours is a Bosch. works great but doesn't stack or unstack itslef. Once that bit is added to the spec, it will be near perfect except it is silver.

Thanks for the advice guys, I tried to search which and dishwashers in several combinations but it just says I need to subscribe to read the answers!!
I'll have a look at bosch and see what other reviews say.
Are there any that are really bad though, definately wouldnt buys?
            Thanks x

H*tpoint Aquarius - about 15 years old - survived one house move and a couple of years in storage. It won't load or unload itself either - but no complaints here.

Bosch or Zanussi were the ones that came up as highly rated when we researched for ours. We went with a Bosch Slimline one. It's big enough to cope with 5 of us, only needs to be run twice when we've had visitors or a particularly large meal (like Christmas dinner), didn't cost a fortune and has a good energy rating. It's, um, 5 or 6 years old now and never had any problems with it.

I love Miele but my purse doesn't to start with. JL own brand are cheaper and made by the Bosch/AEG group.

We went for a Smeg on recommendation - and it hasn't let us down (apart from a seal going once). Our engineer at the time said that he would only ever buy a Smeg or Bosch as they rarely go wrong, and when they do - the problems are usually easy fixes.

Always go with the advice of a repair man

There's a website somewhere that's run by a bunch of engineers, giving the low-down on all the makes of 'white goods'. That's where we read about dishwashers, and washing machines when we needed a new one of those too. Can't remember what the site is called though...

Any dishwasher is good!. I've had indesit and AEG ones, Indesit was probably best. But any one is better than washing up by hand - my least favourite job!
