Happy new year me hearties...now, do any of you have tips for buying what is essentially a playhouse for an adult? yes, I know, bear with...it's for a present, and needs to be:
    a)tiny - 6x4 maximum
b)yet suitable for an adult to sit at a tiny desk to work/read occasionally
c)not necessarily, but ideally, with electricity
d)yet reasonably solid and durable, and insulated...i.e. not like my own rubbish shed
e)and not ridiculously swiss/pink/pirate-ship...it's to go in a small and very visible garden
    f)yet - yes, unpromising no. of 'yet's I realise...AFFORDABLE.
by which I mean in the 100s not 1000s...does such a thing exist, or only in the £10 grand + price bracket?
I suppose what wd do it is simply a good shed, of the kind you'd sit in and drink tea/order seeds in adequate comfort...any thoughts? tips? and best of all recommended suppliers?
thank you my fine grapes and happy 2012.

My oh built a treehouse for our boy, essentially a playhouse on a tall platform around a tree. You could put a shed on a strong platform, maybe insulate with celotex boards? You playboy!
If it's a suburban garden you might need to check out planning laws (sorry) first

My garden shed was bought from a shed company. I had extra height put on it and a stable door and two windows. Once the company had assembled it for me, I had roof lagging put all round behind some ply walls and ceiling and on the floor. Then a laminate floor laid, and two electrical circuits - one for the power sockets and one lighting circuit. It is now an ideal workshop - when I have sorted out all the clutter that is in there! Mine was the largest they did - 14 ft by 10, and came in at under £2k. I also had good roof felt put on top by a roofer to keep it all watertight.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

you definitely need to look into the planning permission aspect:

i think planning permission won't be an issue as it'll be on the ground like a normal shed...Jeanied, that's very helpful and encouraging, a workshop is just what I mean. Which company did you get it from?

Ummm - it was delivered from Birmingham I think but I got it from this company. Now it was a few years ago but I think they are still fairly competitive.

I got a handyman I know to do the fitting out and an electrician to do the wiring from the house to the shed and the circuits so these were all extra.

Would something like a potting shed suit you, it would let pleanty of light for when you wanted to read.

I have a sentrybox tool shed, painted to look like a beach hut. You would not be able to sit in there except with the door open and then your legs may not fit!

Might be best if you can go to a shed display that way you might have more idea what you want and don't forget your chair
