Don't think much off the pop out knobs, just one more thing to go wrong. If your oven and grill are combined there should be a detachable shield supplied to protect control knobs above the oven.

Hmm, I've thought that too, but Mum and Dad had one of those sheild things and it was a real faff to attach - so much so they hardly ever used it - with the inevitable result that the knobs got ruined.
