As to a torch the new style Mini Maglight is a cracker. Only 2 AA batteries so it very light, 4 light settings. Full & half power, fashing to attract attention and SOS should you need it. Mine sits on my belt for work every day and even this clumsy bu**er ain't broke it yet.

My little boy started at Beavers last September so I'm guessing it will be a "few" years before he wants to go for any DofE lol. He did a the Mayors parade last Sunday and marched through town with a brass band, his Mum and myself had a proud momentChris

Brilliant Chris, hope you got some photographs of him. I was a Brownie many moons ago and eventually left the Girl Guide movement after serving for a long time as District Commissioner. I love to see children and young people involved in the movement, you're right to be very proud of him. My eldest Golden Girl is in the Girl Guides, youngest is in Brownies and although middle one was a Brownie, she didn't like Guides, but has instead become involved in D of E with her friends at school, so I am happy to encourage her.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

She's left for her first weekend (accompanied) tonight and is back on Sunday evening. Two 10 k walks I think and camping inbetween. Got all her equipment, some from Decathlon and pooled resources with two friends for the rest. It has now started raining. Hope she's ok. Thanks all for your help.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

Practice was a great success and so this weekend she's on her own (well, there are three of them). Nothing much else to buy except the main meals they have to take (£3.99 a pop), but at least she's worked out how to travel lighter and what she actually needs on the expedition.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

Thanks Bren. I thought it was this weekend, I was wrong, she started last night and typically after all the beautiful weather we've had, it started raining before they got the tent up! They're in Derbyshire somewhere, I think probably around the Foxhouse area.Granny on the Game in Sheffield
