Does anyone remember the guy on the Allotment Series? He made a cart which had a sieve on top, he rolled it back and forth and lovely fine tilth fell out of the bottom, he then wheeled it to the next spot. Very clever, I intend to do something similar one day.

Glad to hear it works well Tony. I've wanted one of those for a while now- saw them in the magazines. I have tried a few Heath Robinson contraptions myself.
....but then why riddle your compost anyhow?... I always used to -with sieve attached to kids swing frame in the end as it was back/wrist breaking work... then last year I thought 'whats the point' and I now just put a few of the worst sticks back in and chuck it on as a mulch round plants. It Lasts longer, gives more body and the worms do the work. Unless your making potting compost or a seed bed- just relax folks -life is too short!Last edited by Paulottie; 02-05-2007, 12:27 AM.

Just wanted to say - I started using my Rotasieve today to get a nice tilth on the onion bed. I've been digging out the compost heap the previous owners left behind and it's full of bits of twig, non-composted grass cuttings etc. The sieve has allowed me to create nice fine compost for this bed - but I shall leave some of the 'rougher' stuff where I don't need such a fine surface and let the worms do their thing.....
And I bought it because I saw the recommendation on here from last year, thanks guysGrowing in the Garden of England

Sorry to drag an old thread up but found it when googling for Rotasieve.....
Looking round price is around 40-45 quid mark from the usual suspects. LBS Garden Warehouse had them at 27 quid but out of stock till end of July. Found them in Machine Mart - just rang the local one. Guy said they're very popular and he had 2 in stock so bagged one from them. Price 29 quid....... Also available online.....4.50 delivery.
Hope that helps someoneAKA - BigMatt over at Chillis Galore......

A great tool. I've been using mine to sieve all the crap out of a pile of soil that had been left at the back of my lottie. All sorts of bits of plastic, glass, rubble and weed roots. Long job but it makes a wonderful soil for filling raised beds with.It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Had mine delivered last week and it was in good use at the lottie over the weekend sieving soil as we put it back in a new bed. It does get rather clagged up when the soil is wet so you need to brush the underside every few loads full but that's not exactly a problem and it helped sieve out all the sections of roots we have in our beds. Got mine from LBS Horticulture who are the cheapest out there which I could find.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
