  • Mail order compost?

I'm a non-driver who is permenantly welded (it feels like, lol!) to a pushchair, so road transport is hard for me to organise. So far this year I've carried all my compost home from the shop in my rucksack. Whilst this has had the side benefit of keeping me fit and strong, it's hard work! I gave in a couple of weeks ago when it was time to fill the (many) buckets and containers I want to use for potting on and ordered some online for home delivery. Still waiting though!

Can anyone recommend a reliable and reasonably quick supplier?

look in your local free paper - are there any gardening ads? Near me there are a couple of small businesses who advertise and will deliver compost and top soil in bulk bags (by the tonne). Also we have a hardware store that sells everything from a single screw to washing machines and they are happy to put stuff in their truck and drop it off. Builders merchants might also supply landscaping materials and compost. Ring up and ask!
    Good luck,
    Julie

I don't have a car either, just a bike. I carry most things on it, but even it couldn't handle a 70litre bag of compost. Now I get my brother to deliver me one, or order from our local independent DIY store

Check your local papers or DIY stores for free delivery offers. Even in suffolk we have some who deliver. I always ask my son for a bale of compost for my birthday (March) - may be boring but it's useful.

It's obvious now you say it but I hadn't thought of the local paper! We don't get a freebie one round here but I'm sure the sale one is only a few pence.

I shall pick one up next time I'm out and see what's in there

Check out small local diy/pet shops. We have a couple of them that will deliver.

Good idea about the birthday present Rustylady. Mine's in January. My Ma and sister never know what to buy me - I could set myself up for the season.

                Hello Claire,
Just had a leaflet in a gardening mag for www.cpldistribution.co.uk who offer FREE home delivery. They do westland, Levington, and also other brands 100 ltr Westland multipurpose 3 for £15 which seems quite reasonable
