Boring, I know - but I've always paid for PC security, but I'm told I can get it for free and now is the time as I have a new PC. Before I start trawling, can anyone recommend please?

    Hi,
Just asked OH. We have AVG and that's free. If you go on site it may say down load the pay for one but the free one covers everything. A computer guy pointed us to AVG as he used it on his computers.

I'm currently using a combination of AVG and Zonealarm, both of which are free. Seem to remember Avast does pretty much the same as AVG.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

AVG here as well, just make sure you keep the virus definitions up to date as some free versions require you to do it manually

I use AVG. Seem to think?? that every time I download the updates there are tick boxes for the Paid For Version (which it is important to untick, unless you want the extra features) and tick boxes for other add-ons - toolbars and the like - which, if ticked, will introduce potentially unwanted clobber.

Its "free" but they still have to make a living, of course, so Buyer Beware.

Me too. I have used AVG and AVAST in the past but they seem redundant now that MSE comes with Windows.

I also use that scottie dog, WinPatrol Free Edition, to trap any updates to startup settings etc and to bark at anything out of the ordinary.

Ooops! I use Avast as well. AVG wouldn't let us download free for some reason, but when you go through avast it's the same, but easier.
