opinion about composting toilet

So I've met all the committee today and other plot holder and they told us that they applied for a grant for the toilet and they got it and now they have to use the money for what they applied otherwise they have to give them back. So composting toilet will be.

Or if the 5 plotholders don't want it then they could give the money back.
(And future plot holders don't want it... Well as you can't ask then just assume they will want to have a wee at some point)

A loo is SUCH an asset to a site though - even a small one. If no one uses it then it never needs emptying and you can store tools etc in the shed.

Well if all the 5 plot holder go . to the monthly meeting would be better. When they suggest it I said that for me is pointless and they told me that they understand because I'm the youngest and other over 60 may feel more confident to have a place to go if they need it. The water issue is not a real issue for me because I have a neighbour that she pass me the hose pipe to fill my waterbutt if I need ( 3 time this summer) because she's not on meter ( plus I've been give some of my extra veg every time I went to the lotty).

That's why I gave a bucket. Would almost certainly still use it even if we had a shared toilet provided as its so much easier and no concerns about who used it last.

I do the same in a bucket and then in the bin. Only because around the allotment there are houses and a nursery. So better be out of sight

Compost toilets are great, but I don't agree with having them on allotment sites: just go in a bucket in the shed (if you have a shed).
Lotty committees tend to go a bit daft when they get "free" money: ours spent £3,000 on new locks & keys, which cost £25 for each new key and the lock jams up frequently and requires repair several times a year.
The old lock had no such issues, there was nothing wrong with it, they just wanted some new toys


cctv would've been a better spend, security-wise: £100 for a stand alone camera on the gate

I agree with you. They also spend 3500 from the grant to make security fences on top of the gates. But now the gate ate taller but people can climb up from the fences. Then almost 4 for the 2 toilets. Cctv was a good idea. With that money they could spend for water butt, sheds for plot that don't have one, community greenhouse, compost bin etc.

But they've got it for a compost loo. So have that done and then ask for them to get grants for the other stuff.

Then ask them to talk to their grants officer in the Lottery about the options for a variation of grant so they can do more with the money. It is possible.

Look on the bright side: it's an asset for the site's future.

It was number one on the wish list for site improvements on a survey we did on our site to produce our five year plan.
However when we discussed it as a real option (Money available for that project alone) we had a dissenter or two. However their argument was based on them not needing one as they could go home to pee. Which clearly wasn't the case for the other plotholders.
Ours has been up and running for 6 months and has been used by lots of people. It's a great asset to have as people can stay on site longer. It doesn't smell and is easy to maintain.
It's made the site better for the majority of people and for those against it, they've not been forced to use it or affected by it in anyway.

Not affected them apart from money being spent on something they had no interest in when the money could have been used for something to benefit everybody. I really don't understand this argument that people need a toilet or they can't do anything, if they can't have sheds to have a enable private bucket weeing them that's a much bigger issue as a shed as massive benefit to give you cover from the elements when it tips it down and keep a few bits. Thankfully when there was a brief conversation on our plot about providing loos nobody had any interest what so ever.
