Could anyone let me know where to purchase wallpaper paste without fungicide added to it
or give the recipe on how to make your own. I think it used to be made with flour but not sure, this was a way of sowing seeds several years ago, where you could germinate seeds in the paste prior to sowing in compost or the ground, and I would like to use this method again if possible
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

A quick goggle came up with the idea of using water retaining granules to make a jelly, that will look like frogspawn with the seeds in it. Never tried any of the paste methods so have no idea how effective they are.

My mom says any wall paper paste they all have an anti fungi stuff in. That's why you can leave it for a few weeks and it will still be ok.
She says my granddad use to use it for cuttings with great results.
Do agree with NG the other paste is made up with flour and water. Bit like a soggy play dough mixture.

If you get some designed for children's craft activities it won't have fungicide in it, for obvious reasons! Wilkos do that sort of thing, or a stationers.

I did a quick goggle for recipes. Most of them I found were for very large quantities, which you probably won't need, or had other ingredients added like salt or alum that mightn't be good for seeds. But here's one that looks good, using just flour and water. It has quantities for runny and thick versions.

1 - Flour and water glue:

To make a flour and water glue follow these instructions:

Boil 5 cups of water in a saucepan.

In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup of sieved flour with a cup of cold water. Mix to a smooth consistency (a bit like making custard). When completely free of lumps, add the mixture to the water in the saucepan. Gently boil, stirring constantly for two or three minutes until the mixture thickens.

              Allow to cool before using.

This will make a runny glue. If you prefer a very thick glue (or if you are in a hurry for it to dry) use this recipe instead:

              Thick flour and water glue:

Use 1 whole cup of flour to three cups of water. Make using the same method as above.

It comes from this web page about papier mache
