Vegetable garden for those who live in the city

Hello! I wanted to show you this new vegetable garden! I love seeing it in balconies, especially in tall buildings It is self-watering and self-fertilizing and it’s amazing for people who live in the city like me, who don’t really have much space or time to take care of it.

Personally I wouldn't advise anyone installing stuff like this without being very clear about the load-bearing capacity of the flat roof/balcony and whether additional support is needed. Wet compost is very heavy.

No, I just found them online and I really liked the idea, especially because they're portuguese like me and it makes me proud
But yeah, you're right, I hadn't thought about that but it's something to bear in mind.

House building methods are quite different in the UK from those in Portugal, here flat roofs would generally not be strong enough to support the extra weight

Where is your location Aliss?
You don't really get that kind of space in the city...when I lived in London the ony green space I had available was the nearest park. No garden, no balcony or flat roof....

I wonder if covering the roofs of London with Solar Panels, rather than plants, and leaving farmers to grow the vegetables, is a better cost-benefit-equation for the environment?

Solves the problem where the roof is sloping, rather than flat, too.
