Changing to fibre broadband

I'm seriously considering upgrading to fibre broadband, particularly as my husbands muttering about a smart tv is getting louder and more annoying and we only get about 3meg speed on ordinary broadband.

Shopping around plusnet is coming up cheapest. I am currently with talktalk who would work out dearer if I upgraded with them.

My main problem with talktalk is on the rare occasions I've had to contact them I have had serious communication problems. They seem to struggle with my Yorkshire accent and I definitely struggle with theirs (not sure where they are based but not UK)

Plusnet say their call centres are in Yorkshire.

I also need an anytime uk calls package included.

Has anyone any recommendations, or otherwise for plusnet, or would recommend another reasonable priced ISP who has good, understandable customer service.

the cheap ones are ok but only for browsing.
i was with sky and it was £30 something and service was realy terrible 8 engineers i had and they could not fix broadband.

So went with bt (not fibre) or infinity.
cost £30 some inc anytime calls inc line rental .
Now no problems at all can d/l a film in 25 minutes
no tv just freeview.

We were with BT but had various problems with them. Had everything separate so BT had phone and internet and Sky had TV.
We have Sky TV, Broadband and phone for about £42. OH always manages to get a good deal from someone.
The phone is call anyone anytime, basic broadband but can upgrade I think for another £7.50 a month then basic entertainment package.
The call centres are in the UK and if you ring them up and see what they offer you and then see what you can barter them down to Plus if you do swap they will get in touch with Talktalk for you and tell them you are switching.

When we moved everything went to sky. We were limited on providers but sky rent the line off BT but worked out cheaper than BT, also they monitor to make sure we get a certain speed. Can't remember all the details but they have been really helpful when needed. I think it is a similar package to NVG. I have found over the years that BT are a bunch of thieving gets -IMO

I moved to Plusnet Fibre in January. Plusnet are part of the BT group. Their call centres are in Yorkshire. All the hold music is of Northern origin.

A few things:

- Check CashBack & Discount Codes | Free Maximum Cashback you could potentially get £101 cashback for signing up
- If you do not sign up via TCB, have a haggle with them, you should get a good deal.
- Telephone packages are pretty much as per BT and slightly cheaper

- I find general browsing marginally faster. Bear in mind we were on 2.5mb here and are now on 38MB. The real difference is for things like streaming video (now tv etc) and downloading/uploading. General browsing doesn't appear all that much different.

- The service has been up and active without issue since installation.

Cons:

- If you do have to speak to them you will be on hold quite a while (probably no worse than with any other big provider - but you have to listen to Embrace which I find intolerable).
- If you speak to them to arrange a installation date/time makesure you don't get done over. They messed me about something chronic. Sales person arranged for Pre christmas install - I signed up and they promptly cancelled it and pushed it back til the new year.

On the whole they are ok IMO, not as good as someone like www.zen.co.uk , but they are much cheaper than Zen.

Sorry, forgot to add:

I work from home most of the time and got the Plusnet anytime call package with caller ID (it is the same as BT, just slightly cheaper). Same inclusions/exclusions.

I also have a static IP which I need for work.

Another point to note; If you pay your line rental in advance they will discount it.
