Which Telescope to buy?

Well, I picked up this one from a guy who lives about a five minute drive away. Himself was very impressed, and can't wait for clear skies! Of course we now have rain forecast for the next 24+ hours!

Well, I can, actually. We need to calibrate the sight, and therefore need an object around 300 metres away to sight it to. Maximum we can get from the garden is around 60 metres due to trees and hedges lol. Looks like we may have to cart it out in the car, calibrate it, and cart it home again.

300 metres doesn't sound a lot till you need to find that distance clear. Is there a beach near you?

It's a subject that needs carefully looking into.

One wonders why the original owner hadn't calibrated it already or am i being stupid.

No beach AP, but we have plenty of open countryside nearby.

No Bill, the previous owner had stored it in his garage for a while, and said it had probably been knocked out of alignment, which it has. It's all in good working order, you just have two slightly different views from the two sights. We'll get there!
