I have just acquired a new shut knife from Marshalls and for £9-99 its very good value.

The straight blade makes it very easy to hone up and it takes a good edge, its ideal for pruning etc, fitted in a well made belt pouch I can see its going to bet plenty of use.

It can also be combined with a curved bladed general purpose knife for a total price of £14-98p.

The ball point is for scale.

Not the same at all, but I'm quite fond of an old butter knife in the garden - really good for getting in small cracks (paving etc)

That's exactly what I was thinking. And I would know because I occasionally shave with one.

I've always had a collection of knives, the one for cutting string in the greenhouse is an old Scouts sheath knife from the 1950's, I never joined the scouts as the leader(my mates dad) said I'd be a bad influence, can't think what he meant ...........lol

Nice knife potty. First thing I thought was cut throat razor (glad to see I'm not alone).
I've never really got on with knives for pruning. Don't get me wrong I like knives, maybe a little too much! but not for gardening. String cutting & compost bag opening is about my limit.
