Where is the cheapest place to get ground cover wood chip or bark mulch? I thought of asking one of the tree surgeons. Would this 'new' material be ok for a shrub boarder?
Tree surgeons are the favourite and deliveries save you a lot of shovelling. Listen out for a shredder running in your area and pop round and ask. Not always when you want them but always free (or offer a cup of tea).

Have a call round the Tree Surgeons in your local area and you'll find that thay will be more than happy to deliver a load to you free of charge.
The size of the chippings will be dependant on the chipper they use, so ask if the chippings will be big, i.e stuff you'd put on paths or small - Mulch size.
Factor in that there will be less leaves - nitrogen - at certain times of the year.
The pile pictured here is the equivalent of two ton bags
