Hi, decided to sign up after spending a couple weeks lurking! I'm an inexperienced but keen gardener, having tended a back garden the size of a handkerchief for 14 years I've outgrown it and signed up for an allotment (still waiting - in the meantime I am keeping a friend's plot going for a little while as she is unable to at present).

At home in the garden (3m by 8m) I've got tomatoes, one cucumber, baby apple tree, baby quince tree, kiwi and goji berry, blueberry, two honeyberry bushes, two roses, two raspberries, blackcurrant, redcurrant, strawberry bed, lavender, one squash, one courgette. And a couple other things like fennel, sweet peas and lemon balm. There's a tiny pond-in-a-barrel, in between the rasps and the kiwi. Oh and there's still space to sit down

At the allotment (half plot with two GH) I have more toms, cucumber, beans, broadies, onions, kale, French beans and another squash. Oh and courgettes. And a melon. And an aubergine. And sweet peas. My friend put corn and mange tout in too.

I have no real idea what I'm doing, half the time I buy a plant because I feel sorry for it, or I'm just in the mood to buy a plant, and find somewhere to shove it.....

I like surprises and I'm lazy, so I often sow, don't bother to label, and spend several weeks trying to work out what it is that's come up. More interesting that way, no?!

I've got a little boy who's 6 and I'm trying to include him as much as possible, although his real interest is when the plants get to the eating stage. He'll eat most things from the garden, and loves herbs.

    Hi Millie and welcome
You sound my like sort of gardener - like surprises, no labels, a weakness for sorry plants, shove 'em in anywhere approach - and I think you know more about what you're doing that you're letting on.
Pull up a deckchair and make yourself at home.
