hello. I'm called Ant and I live in Maldon, Essex and am just taking on a quarter allotment five minutes walk from my house. We recently downsized with a very small garden and I couldn't bear the thought of not growing my own, so hence the allotment.
I recently reached my three quarter century and am employing the slow and steady approach now. The allotment is fairly heavy clay which is a new experience for me and as the allotment hasn't been cultivated for several years, the next few weeks will test my resolve a bit!
First job is to rebuild the ancient shed I inherited which, when I took it apart, was host to several newts from the nearby pond, so these were re-housed with help from a neighbour in the local wildlife trust. Then it's digging the allotment to let whatever frost we might get this winter do it's work.
