    Welcome Karl and Mrs Karl.
Get them flags up and get some trees in. As far away from the house as practical is my advice, cos trees get big.
I am cutting down one of my quince trees when I get home, firstly cos there is only so much quince jam I can stomach, but secondly cos its huge and blocks light into my front room.
    Enjoy your garden.

hi karl, welcome to the vine. i've not been on for a while so sorry for the late welcome! part of my garden is chipped, which I hate, however I'm lucky to have another small bit which i have pots on. i grew potatoes in three or four last year, and the veg was lovely, and I had some success with tumbling tomatoes in pots too. so even with flagstones, you can still grow veg. cut and grow again salads are easy too. good luck!

        Howdy

        Hello and welcome.

The best thing about a paved garden is the soil is underneath just waiting till you need it, and no weeds.

I'm currently digging up more lawn for veg beds.

And my back garden IS my veg patch.

I would spend a little time looking at your flags and decide which ones to lift. It won't take a lot of work to create little area's of flower, fruit and veg. In some ways you have an enviable position, you are able to create patches of garden exactly where you want it. I am about to do it the other way around, pave area's around my plot. I would rather do it your way.

Greetin's and welcome to this cheery place; I was so impressed by the welcome I got when I joined a week or so ago that I feel I ought to share it! I've not got any earth to dig, just a cobbled patio area by my rented flat. With encouragement from this 'ere Vine I've ordered a set of two raised beds and am very excited about growing veg in those and in pots around my door. Absolutely no idea what I'm doing but that's where I'm going to start!

              Hello everybody.
Was waiting until I sorted out my pictures before introducing myself.
I`m a retired primary school teacher & OH is a builder. We bought this 40`s bungalow 2 years ago, moved in a year ago & are nearly finished renovating & extending.
The 110 ft garden did not have a single plant in it but luckily we brought 200 plants in pots from our other garden which we have been gradually planting out as we have made the beds & borders & it`s a lovely excuse to buy more plants. It`s amazing how many plants you need to fill a garden.
Have got a small area behind the garage which is veg beds with grass borders. I also grow lettuce, toms & peppers in the flower beds & have a herb bed. Grew an onion squash which went right round the central shrub bed in between the shrubs & gave us 5 squashes. I also grow carrots, courgettes & pots in containers& found the carrots worked better that way.
Have two areas of grass where we planted meadow grass seeds & wild flowers & it was exciting watching what grew there. Have planted 5 fruit trees & have also got strawberries & blueberries.
Built an 8x6 greenhouse, inherited & renovated an old summerhouse where our Wilko`s kiwi is growing and have a new conservatory where I hope I can raise my seedlings before moving them to the cooler greenhouse.
Am looking forward to growing the seeds I have swapped or SAE`d from the lovely people on this forum .
              Happy gardening
