  • Hi everyone

    Hi
I'm Shelly and new to the grapevine. I am a real animal lover and have owned 2 horses and 2 dogs. Unfortunately I lost them a few years ago and pressure of work prevented me from getting any more. This was when I decided to get an allotment with my partner Wayne. We have had it for 4 years now and thoroughly enjoy it. The first 2 years we concentrated on just growing veg but we are now growing cut flowers as well. Its amazing that when we first took it on we thought the plot was huge and we would never fill it but now we use every inch and could do with another one. Cant be greedy though there's a lot of people who aren't lucky enough to get one. Each year we try something new, this year its Kohl Rabi. Have any of you tried it? and were you sucessful.

Hi shelley, kohl rabi is one of my very favourite veggies. I like it grated raw wih salads, cut in matchstick stips and stir fried, steamed. It's like a mild turnip, very nutty and delicious. And I'm rubbish at growing turnips and swedes!

Hi, I have never grown it before but have just bought a packet of Kohl Rabi seeds from Lidls for 29p, at that price I thought it was worth the risk of me not liking the taste. I've also bought Achocha and chard for the first time as well.

Hi Shelley, welcome to the 'Vine
I'm just trying to start a cut-flower border at home. I've got crysanths and bulbs in so far, & I've started annuals off in modules this wknd. Can't sow direct as the snails & slugs have a feast!!
Hope to see you around the boards

Hi from me and Trousers too!
I grew Kohl Rabi for the first time last year, and I could hear the Slugs shout 'Whoopee!' as they nibbled out the heart of the biggest one, and moved all their mates in.....
jolly cozy they looked an'all! As Flummy says - tastes nutty and nice. Well worth the effort, so go for it!
Enjoy the forum - it's loads of fun.
