  • Hello Hello Hello

    Hi all,
Having been a lurker on this forum for a while, so I thought it was about time I introduced myself. My name is Norman (hence the stormin part of my forum name). I live in sunny Norfolk, about 6 miles South of King's Lynn. I have a small vegetable patch in my garden where I grow salady stuff for the kitchen I also have a 6x8 lean to greenhouse, which abuts my garage wall and faces due South, so lots of toms, peppers chilis etc.
I have MS, and as a result, would be unable to manage a full size allotment (our local lotties are 3/4's of an acre in size). I have been really fortunate in this respect, as one day when I was just visiting the allotments, I got chatting to one of the long time plot holders who generously offered me a 5 metre slice at the bottom of his plot which I grabbed with both hands. In my first year there I had to acknowledge that I was restricted in what I could. I planted lots of fruit (raspberries, black currants, gooseberries and blackberries) which pretty much look after themselves but I was still struggling with the rest, so in year 2 (last year) with a lot of help, I put in 8, 4' x 8' raised beds.
I planted 2 of them up immeadiately with strawberries and just put some bits and pieces in the other 2 (the beds weren't all built until the very end of last year) but what I grew in them was fantastic. Again with a lot of help, I now have a chipped bark path all round the beds (with a weed proof membrane underneath) which is wide enough for my wheel chair if there are times when I am forced to use it.
I addition to the strawberry beds (which are a fixed feature) this year I will be starting an asparagus bed and a cut flower bed, while the other plots will be used for more mundane crops like onions, outdoor cues and toms, land cress calabrese etc.
I think I have bored you all enough by now, so will end by saying glad to be here, look forward to meeting you all on the forum.

            Hi all,

            Thanks for the great welcome.

Yes shirley, I have been given some fantastic help and advice by the other lottie holders here (there's only half a dozen of us) and in addition to them I have my brother-in-law (who only lives a few doors away from me) to help with any heavy work).

I look forward to picking your collective brains in the future when I am stumped by problems.

Good for you! It must be very satisfying to get out there and GROW putting 2 fingers up to anyone who tells you to take it easy!

              Good luck this year
